October 18, 2020 – National Chocolate Cupcake Day | National No Beard Day
Who Knew That Shaving Your Beard Could Save Your Life?
Welcome to October 18, 2020 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate a special dessert and bracing your face to conquer the world.
Hey Marlo, guess what today is? National Chocolate Cup Cake Day? Right. What a perfect celebration food! Who wouldn’t love a delicious, bite sized chocolate cake? With or without frosting these gooey morsels can satisfy any chocolate lover who might be celebrating, oh, I don’t know a special occasion… Yep! 100 percent agree. Cupcakes have been around since the late 18th century when they were baked in individual ramekins or small coffee and tea cups and called patty cakes or fairy cakes. On National Chocolate Cupcake Day bake up a batch for your own celebration, even if it’s a party of one. Happy Birthday, Anna. Oh you remembered!
Alexander the Great is considered one of the most powerful rulers in human history. But legend has it that he also helped to popularize a custom that lives on to this day—men shaving their faces. In 331 B.C., Alexander lost a key battle in which he witnessed Persian soldiers grabbing his men by their beards and holding them in place in order to stab the men with spears. Before they fought the Persian army again, he ordered his troops to shave their beards. His army won the next battle and he went on to conquer the Persian Empire and control the largest empire in the world. You may find yourself grumbling as you’re shaving and getting ready for work today on National No Beard Day. But just think—nicking yourself with that razor isn’t as bad as getting poked with a spear.
