October 15, 2020 – National Shawarma Day | National I Love Lucy Day

After A Long Day Of Fighting Crime What Tastes Better Than Shwarma?

Welcome to October 15, 2020 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate food that’s fit for a superhero and love at first sight. More after the break from guest host, Chris Cecot.

At the end of The Avengers, after the heroes had defeated Loki and his army in the Battle of New York, they were pretty beaten up. They’d saved the world, but they were exhausted and hungry. So Tony Stark took the team out to lunch—to get shawarma. He didn’t know what it was, but he wanted some. Shawarma is a Turkish dish made from thinly sliced meats stacked on vertical spits. Then the seasoned meats slowly rotate next to a heat source. The layers keep the meat tender and juicy and they’re shaved off for each serving and served on a pita with hummus, tahini, pickles, and vegetables. Sometimes the meat is lamb, sometimes it’s chicken, but it’s always delicious. National Shawarma Day is a perfect time to get yourself one of these scrumptious Middle Eastern favorites. Hey—if it’s good enough for Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, it’s good enough for you.

If your life ever feels like an episode of Job Switching, where Lucy has to beat the conveyor belt of candy by hiding them in her mouth, then chances are you’ve already fallen in love with Lucy.  This iconic television show first aired on October 15th, 1951 and audiences were in love at first sight.  That’s because the show featuring Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Vivian Vance, and William Frawley was a program of firsts, including the first to be performed before a live studio audience.  In four of its six seasons, I Love Lucy was the most-watched TV show in the United States and to this day it still lands on TIME Magazine’s list of top 100 shows. On National I Love Lucy Day, catch up on your favorite episodes and be grateful you don’t have to learn the lesson of Job Switching.
