November 11, 2020 – Veterans Day | National Sundae Day
What’s Your Favorite Sundae?
Welcome to November 11th, 2020 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate ice cream bliss and our enduring love for Veterans.
When food critics list the best ice cream sundaes in America, one nearly always gets mentioned: the Bumpity Bliss sundae at Sanders Fine Chocolates in Rochester, Michigan. The base of this one-of-a-kind dessert is a Bumpy Cake—chocolate cake with two “bumps” of vanilla buttercream placed on top, then covered with fudge frosting. The cake is then topped with ice cream and hot fudge—chocolatey heaven. And lest you think that Sanders is a one-trick pony, they also invented the ice cream float back in the early 1900s. On National Sundae Day celebrate in style with a banana split, classic hot fudge, or something more adventurous.
Veterans Day always falls on November 11th to coincide with the ending of World War I. Originally known as Armistice Day for the treaty that was signed on the 11th day of the 11th month in the 11th hour, this day has also been approved to be a day dedicated to the cause of world peace. While Memorial Day commemorates all those who lost their lives in service to their country and Armed Forces Day honors those in active duty, Veterans Day encompasses all United States military veterans and does not change according to where it falls on the day of the week. It’s a reminder of our admiration for those willing to pay the ultimate price in protection of our freedom.
