May 6, 2020 – National Beverage Day | National Nurses Day
Transcript for May 6th
Welcome to May 6th, 2020 as we bridge the social distance on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate defining moments of courage and libations. For more on today’s celebration let’s join Marlo Anderson.
We all know that it’s our choices that define our personality, from our wardrobe to the cars we drive and even where we live. Did you ever stop to think about what your favorite drink might say about you? Maybe you can’t fathom a morning without coffee, or maybe you’re the person who’s always got a water bottle handy. Or, maybe you’re not afraid to admit that you’d be completely lost in the world without a can of Diet Coke to look forward to. On National Beverage Day, kick up your feet and pour yourself a cup of…well, whatever tickles your fancy.
In the midst of the American Civil War, an unlikely hero emerged. This person wasn’t a soldier or even a politician. Clara Barton, a trained nurse who was working as a patent clerk left her civilian post to attend the sick and injured troops on both sides of the conflict. This Angel of the Battlefield fearlessly brought food and medical attention to soldiers wherever it was needed most. She went on to found the American Red Cross and is celebrated today in both the North and the South. On National Nurses Day we acknowledge this same dedication and courage found in those selfless and hard working people on our front lines today.
