May 16, 2020 – National Do Something Good for Your Neighbor Day| National Barbecue Day

Transcript for May 16th

Welcome to May 16th, 2020 as we bridge the social distance on the National Day Calendar.  Today we celebrate what’s cooking in the neighood.  More after the break from Anna Devere.

“Won’t you be my neighbor?” We heard this question every day from Mr. Rogers, who taught us how to be considerate and kind to those around us. And if you haven’t been feeling too neighborly these days, it’s never too late to start. Yeah, the guy two houses down borrowed your drill a month ago and hasn’t returned it yet. And the family across the street plays their music too loudly, but you know what? They’re part of what makes our neighborhoods what they are. On National Do Something Good For Your Neighbor Day, celebrate the folks who make up your backyard community and be the neighbor you wish to see in the world.

And speaking of neighbors, nothing brings people together quite like a good old-fashioned barbecue. Fire up the charcoal briquets and you  instantly conjure up memories of summer days and back yards full good friends. Whatever’s cooking on the grill doesn’t matter so much as the company and the laughter because food that’s cooked outdoors just seems to taste better…that is, unless Dad burns the hamburgers again and we have to order a pizza. On National Barbecue Day all it takes is a little sunshine, some burgers, and potato salad, it really is a beautiful day in the neighborhood.
