March 9, 2023 – National Meatball Day | National Barbie Day

A Meatball By Any Other Name Is Still Delicious!

Welcome to March 9th, 2023 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate a meatball by any other name and a doll who’s done it all.

Kofta. Albondigas. Polpette. Lion’s Head. Bakso, it’s a meatball world and we’re just living in it. Across the world, meatballs exist in some form in almost every culture. Beef, pork, fish, lamb; baked, fried, grilled, stewed, braised or simmered in broth, we love our meatballs. Mixed with vegetables or bread crumbs and served with gravy, on crunchy bread, over noodles or in a piping hot bowl of soup, meatballs were invented as a way to stretch limited supplies of meat into a more satisfying and filling dish. On National Meatball Day, serve ‘em up how you like ‘em and give thanks for this sphere of deliciousness.

In 1959, the world was introduced to one of the biggest fashion icons ever. Her name is Barbara Millicent Roberts, though you probably know her as Barbie. Since making her debut, she’s become one of the most popular toys ever—Mattel claims that a Barbie is sold every 3 seconds. And she’s always out in front of fashion trends, with nearly a billion different outfits over the years. On top of that, she’s held over 150 different jobs, including doctor, astronaut, and pilot. Heck, she even ran for president once. On National Barbie Day, we celebrate an icon who’s seen and done it all.

I’m Anna Devere and I’m Marlo Anderson.  Thanks for joining us as we Celebrate Every Day.
