June 29, 2020 – National Camera Day | National Waffle Iron Day
Transcript for June 29th
Welcome to June 29th, 2020 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate every day inventions that we take for granted. More after the break from Marlo Anderson.
We all love to capture the moment and with devices as small as a pen or a smartphone, it’s hard to imagine a time when we couldn’t enjoy this fun pastime. But a little over 200 years ago the only way to make a visual record was to paint it. And even in 1816 the first photograph was neither simple nor practical to create. The invention caught on thanks to George Eastman, who wasn’t the camera’s inventor, but his improvements made the large and bulky apparatus more user friendly and on National Camera Day we can snap away to our hearts content thanks to this Father of Photography.
Waffles add that extra”something, something” to breakfast. We all know there’s nothing like a hot waffle off the iron covered in butter and warm maple syrup. So why don’t we make them more often? Maybe you didn’t know, but there are so many great recipes you can create using your basic waffle iron. Like waffle shaped banana bread, or quesadillas or hot sandwiches. And if you’ve never pressed a glazed doughnut with a hot waffle iron you’re in for a whole new treat. John, don’t you have a recipe for leftover stuffing using the waffle iron? Maybe if we’re lucky he’ll share the recipe. On National Waffle Iron Day, get out of the ordinary and cook up something special!
