June 25, 2020 – National Bomb Pop Day |National Leon Day
Transcript for June 25th
Welcome to June 25th, 2020 on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate chilling out and getting a jump on the frosty season. More after the break from Marlo Anderson.
One of the coolest ways to beat the heat is by celebrating National Bomb Pop Day! This treat got its start in 1955, in the days when the music of the ice cream truck sent kids scrambling to find some change. The red, white and blue popsicle was an instant hit during an all time high in our national pride. And it didn’t hurt that the first frozen rocket arrived in the heat of July. For that we can thank DS (Doc) Abernathy and James Merritt of Kansas City, Missouri. The pair were on a road trip when they thought up the trio of cherry, white lemon and blue raspberry that still makes the kid in us happy!
On National Bomb Pop Day chill out with this iconic blast from the past.
Anna: We’re almost at the midpoint of the year and today is halfway to Christmas, or as it’s sometimes known: Noel. It’s National Leon Day.
Marlo: Leon? I don’t get it.
Anna: Leon is Noel spelled backwards.
Anna: It’s the perfect time to start planning for the holiday, especially if you are the crafty type. Why wait til the last minute when you can get a head start on the festivities? That doesn’t mean you have to stop enjoying your summer. It means you have more time to get your ducks in a row. So hang by the pool, take some time for lampin’ in the Hamptons, and know that you’re way ahead of the game today on National Leon Day.
