April 26, 2020 – National Kids and Pets Day | National Pretzel Day
Transcript for April 26th
Welcome to April 26th, 2020 as we bridge the social distance on the National Day Calendar. Today we celebrate top photo opps from our family superstars and the plot twist on pretzels we bet they never saw coming. More after the break from Anna Devere.
Few things can “upstage” an event like kids and pets. Their almost irresistible effect on a crowd gives them the celebrity “right of way” whether it’s the family picnic or photo shoot. And don’t even think about getting Social Media attention for yourself on National Kids and Pets Day. Make sure your celebration doesn’t bring out the sibling rivalry that naturally ensues from little kids and pets sharing the spotlight. No one wants to see a toddler meltdown turn murderous when it comes time to shine the love on these otherwise charming family members.
This popular snack food staple was invented by an Italian monk in 610 AD as a reward for young children who learned their prayers. He called his creation a PRAY-tee-oh-luh, which means “little rewards,” but we call it “the pretzel.” Its traditional shape was meant to resemble someone’s arms crossed in prayer. I’m sure this monk never imagined his “little rewards” being eaten by rowdy sports fans at ballparks or the sticky mess of dipping them into nacho cheese made by hungry mall rats. On National Pretzel Day celebrate your favorite snack reward anyway you please and enjoy the plot twist of this very old story!
